Learn the story behind the latest Santa Clarita-based film festival ahead of its Dec. 9 debut

September 27, 2021 by Matt Fernandez

The Santa Clarita Valley has long been a prime filming location and is home to the Western Walk of Stars, the mansion of silent film legend William S. Hart, California Institute of the Arts, three movie theaters and even had a show about (fictionalized) life in our town. But in spite of all this “Hollywood North” as Santa Clarita is sometimes called, the area does not have its own film festival.

Musicians and artists can file now to be part of SCIFF; Proclaimer partnering with film festival

October 12, 2021 by Ryan Mancini

Ahead of what looks to be a massive spectacle, the Santa Clarita International Film Festival is calling all local artists and musicians in the region interested in performing live music or comedy and  displaying their art from the Dec. 9 launch until Dec. 12.

“We want to support – as much as possible – the artists here and in the San Fernando Valley,” said Lisa deSouza, who is spearheading SCIFF and serving as one of the festival’s judges. “The question is how do we get to them, it’s easier said than done. Part of the biggest challenge is just getting the word out there so people know we exist. Year two, year three is a different story – year one, we’re pushing the boiler over the hill. It’s definitely been an interesting journey.”

Exclusive: SCIFF debut establishes a new home for artists and filmmakers in the heart of SCV

December 14, 2021 by Matt Fernandez

For a town that has been tied to the entertainment industry for so long, Santa Clarita has conspicuously gone without a local film festival for several years.

Fortunately that drought of fresh talent and new stories has come to an end thanks to the Santa Clarita International Film Festival (SCIFF) presented by the Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Oakie Charitable Foundation, which partners with colleges and universities across the country to bring scholarships, lectures and screenings to comedy students pursuing careers in theater, film and television.
